It’s been a packed and fruitful summer!
This passed season I have taught my first sculpture workshop in South Bend, Indiana, worked with another sculptor on a collaborative project, taken a 3-week course on marble carving in Pietrasanta, Italy, and been part of a group Art Exhibition in the heart of Florence!

The Corpus Project

This summer I worked in the studio of Andrew Wilson Smith, a sculptor local to South Bend, Indiana. In this studio, a group of sculptors work together on various projects, ranging from granite carvings, wooden statues, bronze sculptures, and even architectural design. There, the artists collaborate on projects and share expertise, forming an environment conducive to creativity and success.
This Corpus is a product of that environment, done in conversation with AWS.

Teaching to Sculpt

Also at the AWS Sculpture Studios, I lead a 3-week workshop focusing on the foundations of figurative sculpture. I accompanied a group of students through the David Feature exercises, where we take plaster casts of Michelangelo’s David and sculpt them accurately. It’s the perfect introduction to traditional method.

Marble Carving Workshop

In September I returned to Italy from my American summer and attended a
3-week marble carving workshop in the town of Pietrasanta with sculptor Martin Foot. Pietrasanta is situated at the base of the Carrara mountains, where Michelangelo quarried the stone for his masterpieces. I endeavored to make a copy of Gaetano Cellini’s Portrait of a Girl. Time ran out and I haven’t finished yet, but I will return to this project as soon as possible.

In the Light of Florence

On September 27-29 I partook in one of the most proud moments in my career so far, an exhibition featuring 31 amazing artists all who live and work in Florence, Italy. Many of these artists are close friends next to whom I am so proud to have exhibited work. I showed three sculptures of mine: Corpus, Revelation, and Cascade. This show was organized by the Pneuma Art Foundation.

What’s next?

Now I am starting my 4th Year Graduate in Residency program at the Florence Academy of Art where I will be teaching one day a week and working on my own personal projects the rest of the week. I have already moved into my new private studio and begun on the next sculpture! I am too excited to slow down. Stay tuned for what comes next . . .
