Oh, how late is this Newsletter!
My dear subscribers, I had promised you a Newsletter at the end of each season. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. I have failed you. My last newsletter was sent in August of 2024 and I have been woefully silent since then. Please accept my apologies and I hope this one will constitute sufficient recompense.

It has been a lovely and productive year since we last spoke! I began my 4th Year Graduate in Residency at the Florence Academy of Art in September 2024 and have spent the time teaching at the school and sculpting in a private studio on personal projects and commissions. Allow me to share!

Fall - Sculpting and Teaching

During the fall trimester at FAA I began to work as an assistant instructor, teaching sculpture and drawing every Monday. During the rest of the week I have the privilege to sculpt in a private studio (shared with one other person) and make anything that my heart desires. No more school projects, just personal artwork! I began a number of projects aimed at capturing an individual sense of artistry that I wanted to explore. I experimented with drapery: a subject I did not have experience with prior. Finally, I made a portrait painting under the tutelage of a painter friend!

This image shows several sculptures in progress. The central figure is a life size sculpture of an obscure Florentine martyr named San Miniato. On the right, a commissioned piece of Saint Jerome, and on the left two portraits of my friend Stefano in clay and in paint. I continued to develop these sculptures in the next trimester.

ARC Salon

The Art Renewal Center is an international arts foundation promoting Classical Realism in the 21st century. Every year they host an art competition called the ARC Salon where any artist from around the world can submit their work for consideration in 11 categories. My sculpture, The Garden, won First Place in two categories: Sculpture and Fully From Life.

I have known about the Art Renewal Center since I was in high school and I have always dreamt of competing in the Salon. I was genuinely shocked and incredibly honored to have been awarded first place.

Winter

During the Winter trimester at FAA I continued on the work I left off, completing Saint Jerome and Stefano and making further progress on San Miniato. I kept teaching every Monday and working in my studio tirelessly the rest of the time. In addition to completing some work, I started a new sculpture, also on commission, of Saint Hildegard von Bingen.

FACE 2025 Exhibition - London

In March of this year I had the pleasure of exhibiting a sculpture in the FACE 2025 Exhibition in London, sponsored by the Society of Portrait Sculptors.
I exhibited a fragment of my sculpture Revelation.

Spring - the current trimester

The Spring term at FAA is still under way. I have recently completed my sculpture of Saint Hildegard von Bingen and continued working on San Miniato. In addition, I began a new work of Adam and Eve which I am not at liberty to share. That sculpture will be part of an Exhibition here in Florence in the Fall. When this season concludes I will send another update with new things to look forward to!

Corpus bronze

I have, in collaboration with Andrew Wilson Smith, cast the sculpture Corpus in bronze! This is available floating on a base or attached to a cross.
